Thank You all for another great event...
2024. COMPETITION RESULTSOn August 30 and 31, 2024, the 3rd edition of the Jump2Krk athletic competition was held.
In a unique environment, on the fishing pier in Krk, between the sea and the backdrop of the city’s historic sights, 16 female and 17 male athletes from 10 different countries fought for the titles of the best in front of a large Krk audience.
On the first day, Friday, there were female athletes, divided into two strong groups. Among them, the best was the Belgian representative, twenty-three-year-old Elien Vekemans, who, jumping 4.54m, set a new meet record, a personal record, but most importantly, a new Belgian record. The news about the record jump on our island reverberated both in Belgium and throughout the world of athletics. Behind the excellent Belgian, her training colleague, Marijke Wijnmaalen from the Netherlands with a jump of 4.10m, and American Kortney Oates with a height of 3.95m came third.
The second day of our sports and tourism event started with a playroom for children. Athletic trainer Atila Salaj, a member of the Slavonija-Žito club from Osijek, helped for the third year in a row in holding demonstration exercises to teach children to pole vault. In the heat, about 40 young girls and boys from Krk, guests and members of the Krk Athletic Club gathered and listened to the instructions of coach Atila with great attention and tried to “imitate” professional jumpers. The workshop ended with the electronic measurement of running speed on the designated runway, and of course the distribution of t-shirts and a sweet snack.
In the afternoon, the B group of athletes performed, who also delighted everyone present with their performance. The highlight of the meeting, as expected, was the performance of the top ten. As the sun fell, the bar rose. The competition was opened by our prominent athlete from Punat, Fran Bonifačić, who finished the competition with a jump of 4.90m, which is his best result this season. Last year’s winner and record holder Olen Tray Oates won with a new meet record with a jump of 5.60m. The second was the Croatian representative, Ivan Geronimo Šerić, with a jump of 5.40m, and the third, with the same height, was the Hungarian Marton Bondor.
This year’s competitors came from Slovenia, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Serbia, the United States of America and of course Croatia. The presentation of the best athletes was accompanied by our smallest members, participants of the athletics school, while the announcement of the winners was assisted by the Krk majorettes.
